We’re a quick 10-minute drive from SJU International Airport (Luis Muñoz Marín). Uber and Lyft are the easiest options, though the T-5 public bus (75¢ exact change; exit at Parque Barbosa) is also available.
Where is the Firehouse Guesthouse located?
We’re in the heart of Ocean Park just east of Parque Barbosq, steps from the beach and within walking distance of restaurants, nightlife, and local conveniences. Major destinations like Condado, Isla Verde, and Old San Juan are only 10–15 minutes away by car. The guesthouse is also a quick 10-minute drive from SJU International Airport (Luis Muñoz Marín). Uber and Lyft are the most convenient ways to get here, though the T-5 public bus (75¢ exact change; exit at Parque Barbosa) is another option.
Is parking available?
No parking is available within our gated neighborhood. If you have a car, its best to rent from our sister hotel, Coqui del Mar, or park outside the gates on the public street. We highly recommend using Uber or Lyft for the metro area as parking in the city can be challenging.
Do the rooms have air conditioning?
Absolutely. All rooms are equipped with powerful A/C — essential for the Puerto Rico heat.
Is Wi-Fi included?
Yes, we offer fast, reliable Wi-Fi throughout the property, suitable for streaming and remote work.
Is the Firehouse Guesthouse safe?
Yes. The property is located in a gaterd, quiet, residential area and features secure entry. Guests consistently comment on the safe, calm environment.
Are beaches within walking distance?
Yes. Depending on your pace, Ocean Park and surrounding beaches are about a 3-5 minute walk.
Do you allow early check-in or late check-out?
We try to accommodate both when possible. Availability depends on same-day bookings and cleaning schedules — just ask.
Are there day passes?
We do not have day passes available. A room rental does allow access to the property for 2 guests for the day of check in from 9am to the day of check out at 8pm (the room must be vacated at 11am and is accessible at 3pm).
Are there restaurants or grocery stores nearby?
Absolutely. The guesthouse is surrounded by cafés, bakeries, pizza spots, local bars, and full-service restaurants. Several supermarkets and convenience stores are just a short walk away. We’re located in a relaxed beachside neighborhood only 3 minutes from Ocean Park Beach, with easy access to the dining and nightlife of Calle Loíza and far from the tourist crowds of Condado or Isla Verde.
Where is the gayborhood?
San Juan's gay scene is spread out throughout the city, from Hato Rey, Santurce, Condado and Old San Juan. We recommend staying where you would like to stay and planning for an Uber/Lyft to go explore the scene. There are about 20 different gay/queer bars and clubs in the San Juan area including Meet Macarena, Fruit Punch, Oasis, The Atlantic, La Sombrilla Rosa, El Cafetin, Eden, Tia Marias, Purgatorio, Chueca, Kweens Club, Lady Bug, SX the club, Atrevete, El Cojo, La Cantina. Boscos and more opening. There are also special event parties such as HydroFest, Winter Pride Fest and local holidays, pride events and more.
Are women welcome? Are transgender guests welcome?
Our guests tend to mostly be gay cis men but we try to make women and transgender guests feel comfortable at our place and all open minds are openly welcome. We are 18 years and up (no children allowed).
Is this clothing optional?
Yes we are clothing optional anywhere on the first floor within our private backyard patio (never in public as this is illegal in Puerto Rico). On the street please wear shorts and tshirt even if going to the beach. Nudity in public will not be tolerated.
Are you 420 friendly?
Medical marijuana is legal in Puerto Rico and you can easily obtain your license the day you arrive (typical turnaround is 30 minutes via email). There are designated areas where consumption is allowed (never in the rooms). No other drugs or illegal substances are allowed at Firehouse and guests will be asked to leave.
Restaurants & Bars
It sounds cliché, but, we met in Paris – one Californian ex Coast Guard (Rob), and a Parisian local (Vianney). Rob had just finished 18 months at Le Cordon Bleu and was just starting studies at Le Cours Florent, an acting school in Paris (anything to keep the student visa). Vianney had graduated from Le Cours Florent a few years previously, which they discovered over their first glass of wine. The rest is history. 4 years later they were engaged. They married in a château in Bordeaux …
